Asthma

Do you or someone you know suffer from asthma? 1 in 11 children and 1 in 12 adults (CDC) have asthma or asthma-like symptoms.

Asthma symptoms include:

  • Wheezing
  • Coughing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest tightness

Asthma is due to an underlying sub-acute inflammatory process which occurs when coming in contact with allergens or irritants. Allergens or irritants include, but are not limited to; dust, mold, chemicals, temperature and exercise. These allergens or irritants can cause asthmatic attacks. When someone is having an asthmatic attack their airways become swollen, narrow and fill with fluid or mucus. During an attack asthmatics often feel as if their lungs are being "crushed". They struggle to get air into and out of their lungs making it nearly impossible to breathe!

Chiropractic care works well to assist the standard medical approach of cortisone and bronchodilators to decrease asthma symptoms.

How can chiropractic help asthma you ask?
Well its simple, there is a connection between our brain, nervous system and our lungs. Our innate ability allows proper communication between our brain and lungs to heal and regenerate lung and airway tissue. Subluxations (vertebra out of place) block these messages from the brain thus causing improper functioning of the lungs and surrounding tissue. Simply put, our lungs are no longer functioning correctly because they are not getting adequate signals from the brain. A Chiropractor’s first objective is to locate all areas of nerve interference (signal blockages) and repair them through chiropractic adjustments. Specific chiropractic adjustments correct the subluxation that is inhibiting nerve flow needed to restore proper lung function.
